Hormone Therapy and Breast Cancer

Follow-up analysis of data collected for the Women’s Health Initiative study of postmenpausal women has shown an increase risk of breast cancer in women taking combined estrogen and progesterone. The findings suggest there is an increased risk of invasive breast cancer, breast cancer presenting with positive lymph nodes, and breast cancer related deaths.

Hip Fractures Soar When Hormone Therapy Stops

Women who discontinue postmenopausal hormone therapy (HT) have a significantly increased risk for hip fracture, and the protective effect of HT disappears 2 years after cessation, according to new research presented here at the North American Menopause Society 21st Annual Meeting.

Hormones Linked With Kidney Stones in Older Women

Kidney stones should be added to the list of health problems linked with hormone pill use after menopause, according to an analysis of landmark government research that first raised alarms about the products.
